At the center of the captivating rolling fields, lived a boy named Shepherd. His life was essentially unadulterated, simple yet virtuous. His primary duty was essentially to look after his flock of rams.

Their gentle baas and the murmuring of the gales through the single tree on the mountaintop were his only co-dwellers. Day in day, guarding his responsibilities here inculcated in him a sense of tranquil contentment.

But, there were the occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would pine for fellowship. During one such occasion out of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy devised a naughty plan.

Stories of predators hunting on sheep had long been circulating in the hamlet. So, the boy opted to used this fear and played a joke on the villagers.

One day he raced into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The frightened villagers sprinted up the hills to offer assistance but found no wolf.

The boy giggled at the puzzle on their faces. This game laughed for a few days more. However, one noon, a real wolf did come to prey the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.
